Kevin “retires” from teaching high school mathematics to reenter the business world, setting the stage for a long-held dream—starting a business with Renee. With a vision five plus years in the making, they lay the foundation for their future venture, driven by a passion for helping others build financial health, nurture strong relationships, and achieve big dreams. Wasting no time, Kevin obtains his real estate license (in just 10 days!) and parks his license with Keller Williams in Monona WI. This marks the first step toward making their vision a reality.

After months of relentless door knocking, phone calls, real estate meetings, training sessions, and long hours in the KW office, Kevin closes his first real estate deal (thank you Dr. Y. for being MDR's first client!).  Around this same time, after countless conversations and brainstorming sessions, Kevin and Renee officially name their real estate company: MAKING DREAMS Realty (MDR).

With their mission clear, they also establish a guiding motto that would define their approach: “Partnering with You to Achieve Dreams".

Kevin’s hard work and dedication—along with Renee’s unwavering support—led to a phenomenal year of growth after his first closing. As their business flourished, so did their vision for the future. By June 2017, Renee “retires” from her role as a hospital Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer to join Kevin full-time. She earns her home styling and redesign certification, obtains her real estate license, and together, they focus not just on growing their business, but on building a brand dedicated to helping people achieve their dreams.

In January 2019, as MDR continued serving clients in Southern Wisconsin, Kevin and Renee saw the need for a stronger presence in Rock County—where Renee grew up. Recognizing that a physical location in Janesville would better serve their clients, they helped bring a KW office to the area, reinforcing their commitment to the community.

Around this time, the team was growing, and they hired their first coordinator, Kim Crouch, who later became the Manager. This move helped lay the foundation for what would come next for MDR.

MDR Gives-Back is our philanthropic initiative, created to uplift our local community through both financial contributions and hands-on service. From the very beginning of our journey, giving back has been woven into our mission one way or another. Whether it's sponsoring community events, supporting local charities, or rolling up our sleeves for service projects, we're passionate about making a meaningful difference where we live and work.

MDR Gives-Back was formally launched in June 2020 during a heartfelt collaboration with Both Hands—a nonprofit that helps families fund adoptions by organizing volunteer projects to serve widows. That experience reinforced our belief that when we come together with purpose, we can change lives.

By December 2021, Kevin and Renee purchased a building in Janesville, WI, to support their growing team and expand their vision. Already offering staging services and exploring interior design under the umbrella of MDR Design Co., they saw an opportunity to add another premium design element—custom window treatments. This led to the purchase of the Budget Blinds of Janesville franchise on March 1, 2022. With three companies under one ownership, they united their services to create a seamless 'All Things Home' experience for Southern Wisconsin, offering real estate, design, staging, custom window treatments, and more all under one roof. From there, The MDR House was born.

After a year of settling into their new building (endearingly known as The MDR House) and successfully merging the three businesses with the help of phenomenal team members, Kevin and Renee received a strong nudge from their real estate agents to take the next step—independence. With their agents’ encouragement, Kevin’s brokerage experience handling over 500 real estate transactions under the team model, and their business already operating 90% independently, they knew the time was right for MDR to become its own brokerage. Grateful for their growth and partnership with KW, they made the decision to move forward. In December 2022, the announcement was made, and MDR smoothly and swiftly transitioned into an independent brokerage—a defining moment in their journey.

As MDR evolved, Kevin and Renee remained committed to creating exceptional opportunities for their team and providing top-tier service to clients. When Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate (BHGRE) approached Kevin and Renee with their iconic lifestyle brand, the Clark's knew an exciting opportunity was laid in front of them. After careful consideration, they made the strategic decision to purchase a BHGRE franchise, ensuring their brokerage would remain locally owned and operated while gaining the resources and support of a nationally recognized brand.

Rebranding was a difficult decision, but it was the definitely the right choice. By partnering with BHGRE, Kevin and Renee have equipped their agents with cutting-edge tools, enhanced their marketing reach for clients, and further strengthened their community commitment—all while maintaining local leadership and a commitment to excellence. This transition represents more than just a name change; it’s a transformative step forward that positions the brokerage and everyone served even greater opportunities to achieve dreams.
